Hamilton can't feel sorry for themselves, says defender Sam Stubbs

Defender Sam Stubbs says it's been a tough month for Hamilton Accies, but they can't feel sorry for themselves - because they have another one in November.

Accies have faced Rangers at Ibrox, Hibs and Aberdeen at New Douglas Park and St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, taking just a point from that schedule.

The latest of those was a 1-0 defeat at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday, which pitched Accies down to 10th in the Premiership table.

Ross County visit on Saturday, before a trip to Kilmarnock, an international break, and clashes against Rangers and Livingston complete the month.

Stubbs says Accies need to take points from those games, starting with County.

He said: "It has been a tough month, but that's the league, that's what we're going to have to deal with - we can't feel sorry for ourselves.

"It has been a tough month, and there's another one coming up. We've got Ross County, Killie and then Rangers, so it doesn't get any easier.

Stubbs said the performance against Aberdeen was an improvement on Saturday, but he still wasn't happy against Aberdeen (Sammy Turner/SNS Group)

"We have no time to feel sorry for ourselves, it's a massive game on Saturday for us. We have to go into Saturday, it's a big three points, and I don't know where that will take us in the league, but it will be different to 10th.

"League position can play a part in things, but it's not something, personally, that I look at, and I know a lot of the lads don't - for us, it's game by game.

"We understand that we're not going to be at the very top of the league, but we don't want to be scrapping either. The league table doesn't lie and it can be a harsh league, but we need to start winning games and picking up points."

Stubbs wasn't happy with the defeat against Derek McInnes's side, but said it was an improvement on the 3-2 loss at St Johnstone last Saturday.

"My first thought is disappointment," he said. "It's not easy, it was a different type of defeat to Saturday, if that makes sense.

"We weren't good enough on Saturday, we understand that was three points lost, so the biggest thing the gaffer said to us before the game was that he wanted a reaction, he wanted us to play how we had been, and I feel like we did.

"It was a poor goal to concede from a set-piece, so we're not happy about that. There are positives to take away from it, but it's all well and good saying that. That game is gone, we'll look at it, and then it's all heads to Ross County."
