Hamilton bring striker in as first summer signing

Hamilton Accies will sign striker Callum Smith on a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old was a free agent after being one of 17 players released by Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

Smith was on loan at League One side Airdrie last season, scoring six times.

Chairman Allan Maitland says Smith fits the bill as a player with potential, and says he will compete for the first team.

Maitland said: "We’ve signed Callum on a two year deal. I’m just putting the paperwork together but it has been agreed.

“Callum did really well and as far as we’re concerned we’re constantly trying to bring players to the club that we think can progress and do well, and he fits into that.

“The fact that he has been to Airdrie for a full season and got that experience is great as well. We’re delighted with him, excellent.

“He’s going to have a bit to go to establish himself as a Premiership player, but he has great potential, we think he will do well.

"He’s not coming here just to be a bit-part player, he’s here to compete and play, so we’re delighted to have him."
