Hamilton boxer Jordan Grant eyes title shot as he nears ring return

Hamilton boxer Jordan Grant has set a date for his ring return in November and hopes it leads to a title shot.

Grant is back in action at the Crowne Plaza on Friday, November 11, though he hasn’t yet been lined up with an opponent.

The 26-year-old light heavyweight wants to come up against better boxers as he again sets his sights on the Scottish title.

Grant was in line for several big fights this year, but broke his hand in a win over Michal Gazdik at the Hydro in May.

On the road to recovery, and having set up his own company, Knockout Tiling, in the meantime, Grant is ready to rumble.

He said: “I know I’m going to be fighting in November and I can’t wait for it. The hand is getting better.

“I’ve not been back right into the swing of things yet because I’m setting my own tiling company up.

“But as of next week I’m back in training, as well as working.

Grant broke his hand early on during a win over Michal Gazdik at the Hydro in May (SNS Group)

“I can’t wait to get back in there. With the hand-break there was stuff in line that was going to happen, but I couldn’t commit to it.

“I don’t want to focus on title shots straight away, I just want to get back in and get a good win under my belt and then we can look into it.

“But it’s positive now and I’m looking forward to it.

“I think we want to get a six-rounder in, because we’re talking about title rights and stuff, so hopefully we can then look at some tastier fights.”

Grant added: “I definitely want to step up the opponents – I’ve done my apprenticeship now.

“I think it’s time to get the good, hard fights in. I’m seven fights into my career so I’m going to need to start challenging, and that means being against better opponents.

“Hopefully this would set me up for a title shot if I win this one. I want to win the Scottish title. It’s definitely still achievable and something I want.”
