Hamilton boxer confident of victory over Tyson Fury's brother Tommy on Saturday

Hamilton boxer Jordan Grant says he's fighting to put his hometown on the map when he faces Tommy Fury on Saturday.

The former Hamilton Grammar pupil is confident of causing an upset over Tyson Fury's younger brother.

After years of sacrifice, the 23-year-old knows the four-round showdown has the potential to change his life and do his young family proud.

Speaking with Lanarkshire Live today, Jordan said: “I’m very excited, it’s probably the best time to be facing Tommy Fury. It will boost my career.

"Boxing has changed my life, I’ve got a wee daughter now so it’s all for my family.

“There’s been lots of sacrifices made. I’m never in the house, I’m always out training.

“I’ve changed everything about and I’m just trying to make my life better for me and my family and put Hamilton on the map as well."

Saturday's bout at the Telford International Centre in Shropshire was only announced yesterday, after weeks of organising.

It meant Jordan had to fork out £600 on medicals last month in the hope he'd make the card against the former Love Island star.

The Hamilton hitman explained: “I had to jump at the opportunity and take the gamble of getting my medicals done. I had a gut feeling it was going to happen.

“We knew they were going to give us the call and sure enough they did, and we’re ready for it.

“On their corner, they’ll think I’m coming here unprepared, that’s what they’re hoping for but I’m here to cause a surprise.

“It’s four rounds and 12 minutes I have to change my life.

"It definitely will change it in some way so I’m going down there to give it my all, and I will."

The Eddlewood resident first started training at Bravehearts Boxing Gym as a teenager. He then moved to be coached by Gerry Higgins at Blantyre’s Priestfield Boxing Club.

Gerry has worked Jordan hard ever since and will be in his corner on fight night.

"This is his Rocky story"

He said: "The way it’s turned out has been perfect for Jordan. It’s helped him the way it’s came about at the right time in the right way.

"This is his Rocky story. There’s a lot of good boxers out there with maybe 10 to 20 fights that will never get a chance like the one Jordan has right now.

"The exposure he’s getting right now, if he wants it to continue he needs to grasp it with both hands. It’s a massive opportunity.

"The status Tommy Fury has and his following it’s more or less like a world champion, so the fact Jordan is fighting him is a massive opportunity.

"If he takes the chance with two hands, who knows what can happen after."

The fight will be shown live on BT Sports from 7pm on Saturday, June 5.
