Hamilton boss says ex-Rangers man Lee Hodson can bring on youth stars after joining on loan

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice hopes the arrival of experienced defender Lee Hodson will bring on his young squad.

The former Rangers and St Mirren star has joined on a season-long loan deal from English League One side Gillingham and could make his debut in Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash against the Buddies.

Rice is excited to work with the 28-year-old again and believes the versatile player can be a huge asset to his squad.

He said: "I've known Lee for a long time, I worked with him when I was at Watford and St Mirren, so I know he'll bring professionalism to the squad.

"Most importantly, he's a really good football player and he plays in a number positions.

"In the modern day, with budgets the way they are, you need players who are adaptable, and he's very adaptable.

"He has great experience and I hope that rubs off on the younger players."

Accies were due to face Aberdeen in a league match tonight, but that game has been postponed due the city remaining in lockdown following a spike in coronavirus cases.

Rice added:  "We've waited a long time to get competitive football back and to have a postponement after two games is hugely disappointing, but it's understandable in the circumstances.

"We'll just prepare for the St Mirren game now, which I assume is going to be on."

Meanwhile, Rice says there will be no further recruits added to the squad ahead of their next game.

The club are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to challenge current number one Ryan Fulton.

But Rice said: "I don't think there will be anyone else in before Saturday.

"We are always looking to see if we can get better than what we have, but it's very difficult at this time in these circumstances."
