Hamilton boss Brian Rice tells his side to savour first home league win

Hamilton boss Brian Rice told his players to savour their first home Premiership win of the season and get a taste for victory.

Accies beat Kilmarnock 1-0 through Ross Callachan's penalty, with the visitors down to 10 men for over an hour after Clevid Dikamona's red card.

Rice says it's an important three points for his side, which takes them up to 10th in the table.

He said: "It is massive to get a home win and we have another home game against Hibs next Saturday.

“We now know what that feeling is like in the dressing room.

“We want to build on that and make it hard for people to come here.

“It is also good to be off the bottom.

“It is a big psychological boost. Managers and players always say they don't look at the table but they do, every day."

Hamilton grabbed a good 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in their last game, and on Thursday were awarded three points after St Mirren  were found guilty of breaching Covid protocols.

Rice said it was important to build on that and said: "It has been a good week for us. Six points and we couldn't ask for any more than that.

“We had to work so hard for it but I think our second half performance just about merited the win.

“There were a lot of positives but the biggest plus was we carried on the form from Aberdeen. Defensively we were strong and going forward we were a threat.

“Earlier the season we were making basic mistakes but they are now buying into what I want them to do. It is all credit to the players."

Rice says he has no qualms about the penalty and says awards will go for or against this side this season.

He said: "I didn't really see the penalty decision. It happened that quickly.

“We have had penalty decisions go against us and red cards go against us.

“I don't argue with them. We have the most experienced referee in Scotland and probably the best referee in Scotland in Willie Collum.

“He makes the decisions so we just get on with it."
