Hamilton boss Brian Rice issues apology during Rangers rout fan confrontation

Hamilton boss Brian Rice issued an apology to fans last night after supporters confronted the manager following their Ibrox thrashing.

Last night angry punters gathered outside New Douglas Park to seek an explanation for their heavy 8-0 loss to Rangers as the team bus arrived.

New audio has been put forward by supporters podcast Only Accies of the talks between the boss and punters.

Rice was brutally honest as he spoke for around 40 minutes picking apart the club's record defeat in the SPFL era.

When confronted by fans, Rice said : "I'm apologising right now. I apologise for me and I apologise for all the players.

"I really do and I mean it, I'm not just saying that.

"All these words you have used lads, I will use them. This is what the fans are saying, the ones that care, I promise I will do that.

"I'm not here to palm yous off, I'm not here to do any of that c***, I'm here to listen to you, and I'll take it back to the players and take it on board myself."

When asked about a changing team selection, which one fan dubbed "selection bingo", Rice added: "We've been battered with stuff, we've not had a game for 19 days since the Aberdeen game, and we've ended up with 10 injuries and two Covid in that time.

"Charlie [Trafford] broke his ankle last Friday, Shaun Want pulled out two days ago, somebody had to shield, I've never had the chance to play the same team.

"Lewis Smith has been a massive one, he was supposed to be out for three weeks, and we're missing Temps [David Templeton]."

When asked about the change in style of play by the side this season, Rice noted the loss of the likes of Alex Gogic, Mickel Miller and Aaron McGowan.

He went on: "Four or five boys who left in the summer had made the team better, but it's a situation that's out of my hands.

"They all decided to go, in December they were all made offers, and they all knocked it back.

"They were all made offers again in January, but they all knocked it back, and they wanted to wait until the end of the season."
