Hamilton boss Brian Rice eyes "two or three" January signings

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice has revealed he has identified "two or three" new players he wants to sign in the January transfer window.

Rice is desperate to add to his attacking options after a season blighted by injuries and Covid-related issues concerning his forward players.

And with the window opening tomorrow, he has his eye on a few fresh faces who can boost their survival bid the Scottish Premiership.

Rice, whose side head into Saturday's Lanarkshire derby with managerless Motherwell sitting bottom of the table, said: "If we can add one or two additions on the attacking front we'll be in a better position to kick on.

"There will be room to get players in but it is very difficult in January because you find a lot of players who are available, are available for a reason - they've not been playing.

"They are behind fitness-wise so trying to get players in who are ready to hit the ground running is difficult.

"But we've identified two or three that we think could come into the category of being ready to go."

Lewis Smith and David Templeton are out long-term, while Marios Ogkmpoe recently underwent surgery on a knee injury that will keep him out until the end of January.

Deals to bring in reinforcements are by no means done and Rice accepts it could be difficult to prise players away.

He added: "You've got the fact that clubs don't want to let a lot of players go because they could be hit by the Covid situation at any time.

"Even lads that aren't playing might be needed to fulfil fixtures if clubs get hit by Covid, so there's lots of things to consider."

"People being away from their families in England, having to be up here and not being able to travel back down, when normally they can get a day off [makes it difficult as well].

"There's no fans coming in, there's no revenue, so money is tight for every club."
