Hamilton boss Brian Rice aims dig at SPFL as Accies happy to play St Mirren in rearranged clash

Brian Rice has aimed a cheeky dig at the SPFL after last night's announcement that Hamilton will need to play St Mirren in a rearranged clash.

The Buddies successfully overturned a 3-0 forfeit defeat for breaching Covid protocols and the sides must now face each other in Paisley after their October 2 clash was called off.

The Accies boss found out on the morning of their Boxing Day clash with Celtic that the three points they were initially handed over the Buddies was being rescinded, pending an appeal.

Saints won their appeal to the Scottish FA and on Friday night the SPFL announced that Accies would be required to play the fixture at a date to be determined, amid a busy calendar.

After today's 0-0 draw at home to Dundee United, Rice said of the ruling: "I'm just pleased we got the decision on a Friday night instead of a Saturday morning this time.

"The decision has been made, but we've got the chance of getting the three points again.

"There isn't any place to play them at the moment.

"St Mirren have got a League Cup semi-final next week, then the following week when it should be the Scottish Cup tie, they've got Celtic in the league, so we'll just need to see when we'll play St Mirren.

"We've got to play them in the Scottish Cup [third round] as well, whenever that may be.

"Fixtures will pile up and we need to play them."

Hamilton now face 10 days without a fixture, with their next game due to be against Celtic on Wednesday, January 27.
