Hamilton head coach Stuart Taylor says his side didn't win enough of their second balls to merit a win over Dunfermline after the East End Park club inflicted a 1-0 Championship defeat upon them.
Accies lost courtesy of Ryan Dow's first half effort. Andy Ryan had chances for the away side while Mihai Popescu missed a huge opportunity two minutes into the match.
Dunfermline also created plenty more chances as the result leaves Hamilton sixth in the table, with the Pars remaining bottom.
But the gap between sixth and the Championship's basement club is down to just six points after Hamilton's run of one defeat in six matches ended.
Taylor said: "It is really disappointing from us. We wanted to continue the run that we were on. We needed to remember how and why we were on that run. We didn't do that.
"That's what is disappointing from us because we have been doing well. If it was based on the first half then we didn't deserve anything but we asked for a reaction in the second half.
"In fairness to the lads, I felt as if they gave us that. We moved the ball quicker and with more efficiency. Out of possession we pressed better but didn't pick up enough second balls.
"We didn't win enough battles on the pitch. We knew it would be extremely difficult and we knew they would defend the goal with their lives.
"I felt as if what we could have done better, we didn't. They deservingly won the game in terms of I don't think we did enough to win."
Matthew Shiels was influential for Accies until the 57th minute, where he was substituted off after colliding with the post as he attempted to score.
Taylor added on the left-back: "I think in the spell where that happened, we were relentless and we had them hemmed in a little bit.
"The ball in the box is one he's attacked which is great as that's what we have asked him to do. Unfortunately he has collided with the post.
"It looks as if he has taken a bang to the hip. We will need to assess him and hopefully he will be fine."
