Hamilton boss aggrieved over no reward for 'best performance of the season'

Hamitlon Accies boss Brian Rice feels aggrieved his side's "best performance of the season" didn't earn them their first point of the campaign.

Jon Obika netted the only goal of the game in the first half to consign Accies to a third straight defeat and leave them pointless at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership

However, Rice's men were much-improved in the second half and the gaffer was disappointed their display didn't pay dividends.

Rice, whose side also lost 1-0 to Ross County last week, said: "I thought we started the game really well, the first 10-15 minutes and then St Mirren took control.

"They scored a scrappy goal from our point of view, but I thought second half we were at them and I feel a bit aggrieved that we didn't get anything from the game.

"I felt the goal was going to come.

"The pleasing thing is we kept going and we were making chances.

"Last week I went home really disappointed because we didn't really look like scoring, but today, in the second half, that's the kind of performance I'm after.

"If we keep playing like that the goals will come.

"The second half was the best we've played this season.

"It's just really frustrating that we never took our chances.

"For me, they were right good chances, they weren't half chances."

The introduction of Justin Johnson, in particular, and Marios Ogkmpoe early on in the second period seemed to invigorate Accies.

Ross Callachan twice came within a whisker of an equaliser, while a strong stop from Jak Alnwick denied Scott McMann who had their best chance with a low drive in the box.

Rice added: "In this league you've got to be clinical, but that's two weeks in a row we've lost 1-0 to scrappy, scrappy goals."
