Hamilton benefitting from SWPL 1 break says boss Gary Doctor

Hamilton Women’s head coach Gary Doctor says an extended break from SWPL 1 action has been of benefit to his side.

Accies are ninth in the table after seven games, losing five of their opening seven matches following promotion from SWPL 2.

The side’s one win has come over bottom club Hearts while a 2-2 draw was had with Partick Thistle in their most recent encounter.

Hibs come next on November 3rd as Hamilton look to move up the league table. Doctor says he and his squad have been able to reflect on their progress so far this season during the break.

He said: “I think it probably did come at a good time for us. It’s given us a chance to reflect. It’s been pretty much full on since the start of the season.

“This is pretty much the longest break since the last season finished to be honest. So it’s been a little bit of a respite and the team has been banged up with the intensity of the matches.

“We’ve been able to have a bit of a recuperation period this week and give the players a weekend off for a wee change. Hopefully by the time the Hibs game comes around, we’ll have a few more players fit.

“I think it’s given us a chance to sit down and review how things have been going. As you go from game to game, it’s not actually left a lot of time to sit and do some proper analysis.

“We haven’t been able to consider where we have been and where we can go.

"Now we’ve had a week off playing matches, it’s given us the chance to do that. It’s probably given us a chance to tighten up in a few areas with the players as well.”
