Hamilton Accies youngsters can use Hampden platform to show what they can do

Hamilton Accies star Michael Doyle has told his young team-mates to show what they can do against Queen’s Park at Hampden this afternoon.

And the 31-year-old hopes to turn back the clock and repeat his scoring feat the last time he played at the National Stadium.

Doyle netted in a 3-0 win over Stranraer on March 20, 2021, the last game the Spiders played at Hampden before ground-sharing at Falkirk.

He says Hamilton can use the wide open pitch to their advantage and take points from their hosts.

Doyle said: “I scored the last time I played at Hampden, in the last game before we had to move to Falkirk two years ago.

“I’ve said to the boys it’s a great opportunity to play at the National Stadium.

“It’s not the same as playing in front of 40,000 or 50,000, but it’s a really nice park, it’s one of the best in Scotland, a really big park that we can use to our advantage.

Doyle says there's a score to settle from the last time Hamilton played against Queen's Park (SNS Group)

“There’s also a wee score to settle from the 2-0 game at our place.

“They came here and it was a very even game until they scored – which we didn’t think was a goal. At the end of the day, the officials made a decision, we had to recover from that and we didn’t, so they went on and won the game.

“Queen’s Park have started off a lot better than us, there’s no doubt about that, because we’re down where we are, and fighting for our lives.”
