Hamilton Accies "won't stand still" as boss eyes a 'few more' signings

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin insists he "won't stand still" just because they've made some good signings this summer - and he is determined to add a few more players to his squad for their League One title tilt.

The New Douglas Park side took their new additions to eight on Tuesday with the arrival of striker Joe McGlynn, who was with Burnley last season.

And he joins fellow striker Kevin O'Hara, midfielders Jamie Barjonas, Euan Henderson and Stephen Hendrie, plus defenders Lee Kilday, Jackson Longridge and Kyle MacDonald in a new-look Accies squad.

Midfield general Scott Martin signed a new two-year-deal, while SPFL Trust Trophy goal hero Reaghan Tumilty performed a U-turn by committing to the club for another season, having initially left Accies last week.

Rankin is delighted with the business he has conducted so far, but says they won't rest on their laurels with more signings on the way.

He said: "We still need a few players, but we know what we need.

"We have identified targets that we want and we have spoken to these players.

"I think it is important that we don't stand still. We've made some good signings but we are not going to think that's the hard work done.

"The hard work is not done. We need to keep working, keep bringing new players in and keep raising the standard to prepare properly this season.

"I said at the end of last season we had to be proactive in bringing players in and so far we have.

"We have been ambitious with some players we have tried to attract to the club and missed out on, but I think we need to be that way.

"Good players always attract good players and keeping Scotty Martin and Reghan Tumility here at the club as well, sends out a message to others."

Asked if his current squad was stronger than the one relegated from the Championship via the play-offs last season, he said: "That's not for me to say.

"But I'm delighted with the players we have brought in so far.

"We've put our own stamp on it and you can see we've strengthened where we knew we had a weakness last season, in terms of getting goals.

"When I look at O'Hara and Henderson, it brings a hunger and enthusiasm to score goals. They are the kind of guys who will be really disappointed if they come off and they haven't scored in a game - and that's the hunger and drive I want.

"I'm happy with what we've done so far but, like I say, we aren't going to stand still.

"There's been a huge turnaround with 17 players going out the door, so the ones that have been here for a while are no longer familiar with who is around them.

"So there's a lot of hungry players in that squad, and that's how I want to keep it."
