Hamilton Accies star Jamie Hamilton rated as highly as James McCarthy and James McArthur as Brighton prepare bid

Hamilton Accies Academy head George Cairns says Jamie Hamilton is one of the best he has ever worked with, and is in the same bracket as stars James McCarthy and James McArthur.

The Crystal Palace midfielders are the most high-profile players to emerge from New Douglas Park, and with Brighton set to make a bid for Hamilton, the 18-year-old could join them down south in the near future.

Cairns has worked with Jamie since he was 13 years old, and says he definitely has what it takes to make it.

Cairns said: "I've worked with Jamie since he was 13 and I would certainly put him in the same bracket as James McCarthy and James McArthur. He definitely has that 'x-factor'.

"Nothing fazes him, nothing makes him nervous, and he has the biggest amount of bouncebackability I've ever known.

"He gets set-backs and just gets on with it his will-power is amazing. He has had three red cards and has bounced back from all of them.

"It's hard to put a price on him because some people go for £100m, some go for £2m, and that's just football, but the value he has given to Accies, to the development squad, the under-18s and their Champions' League campaign has been brilliant, and the manager, Brian Rice, believes in his ability.

"He is one of the best I've ever worked with, but they're all good kids here. Jamie Hamilton would be highly recommended, but it's difficult to be picking one that is the best because that defeats the purpose of the Academy.

"There are a few good players here, and if and when Jamie moves on there will be others to take his place.

"It really is a conveyor belt here, we've always given kids a chance. I've always said we are the best club at giving young players a chance and we will keep doing that."
