Kyle Munro says Hamilton are targeting an immediate return to the Premiership, and wants to use the Premier Sports Cup group stages to stake his claim in the first team.
Munro, 19, says it’s important to put last season’s relegation disappointment to the back-burner and focus on getting the club back to the top flight.
But Munro hopes his experience and strutting his stuff amongst multi-million pound players will stand him in good stead.
He said: “You just have to get it out of your head; as soon as you’re down you need to get the mental side back, get back in the changing room and get everybody lifted again.
“We want to get out, especially in front of the fans, to show them that we are capable of playing in the Premiership, and try to get ourselves back up.
“Last season I think we struggled a bit to try and get wins, but we should be a lot better and should see ourselves in the top three, or even winning it and getting ourselves straight back up.”
The season starts for Accies on Friday when they travel to League Two side Edinburgh City in their Group E opener, and Munro said: “It’s massive to get off to a good start, hopefully we can have fans there and we can get a win. I think we missed the fans last year, them cheering us on when we were down. I think we needed them.
“The group stages is about trying to solidify our starting team for that first game of the season, try new things maybe and see where it gets us.
“I need to impress in those games and hopefully get myself in the team.”
