Hamilton Accies "speaking to a couple of players" for January 1 arrival says boss Stuart Taylor

Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor says the club are 'speaking to a couple of players' about joining the club in time for the new year.

The New Douglas Park club have been linked with a move for Drogheda defender Danny O'Reilly, while strengthening the club's attacking options has also been seen as a priority since Taylor took the reins from Brian Rice in August.

Asked if O'Reilly was set to become his first signing of the window, Taylor told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "There's load of speculation going about but one thing we'll do at this club is do things right, be respectful and professional about it.

"We'll neither confirm or deny things.

"We'll do our business properly and we'll make an announcement on things when it's the right time.

"There's been quite a few names we've been linked to.

"But we are looking to strengthen from the first of January.

"There's a couple of players we are speaking to at this moment in time and hopefully we can get them across the line for the start of January so we have them in on January 1 for the game on January 2, as opposed to bringing people in on the 14th and the 20th.

"We want to get players in as early as possible to get them to work."

Accies are preparing for a run of tough fixtures with Kilmarnock up first on Boxing Day, followed by trips to Arbroath on Wednesday night followed by a visit to Queen of the South on January 2.

Taylor's side are sixth in the Championship and are looking to kick on from a fine comeback win in Inverness last week.

"Christmas is always a busy schedule and there's always a lot of points to be won," said Taylor.

"Three games in a week gives you the chance to rack up points.

"It just so happens we've got some of the top sides in the league at the moment over the festive period.

"But they are all important games in this league and we won't change our mentality."
