Hamilton Accies snap up former Falkirk defender

Hamilton Accies have today (Wednesday) signed defender Ciaran McKenna.

The 21-year-old, who is from Uddingston, was with Falkirk last season and played regularly for Ray McKinnon's side during his spell.

McKenna, who stands at 6ft 4ins, was part of Celtic's Academy from the age of nine, but at 16 he turned down a professional contract with them for a Political Science scholarship at Duke University in America. He spent three years there and played for their Blue Devils team.

He returned to Scotland in January to sign up at the Falkirk Stadium.

Hamilton Accies chairman Allan Maitland told the club's website: "Ciaran is a great talent and we're delighted to have the deal over the line.

"He's in his early 20s, so he's the perfect age we're looking at just now, with bringing in a slightly younger team.

"Ciaran has the right attitude and I feel he will do well here at Hamilton."
