Hamilton Accies sign ex-Livingston defender Odoffin ahead of Celtic clash

Hamilton Accies have completed the signing of former Livingston right-back Hakeem Odoffin.

The 22-year-old joins Brian Rice's squad on a one-year deal ahead of Sunday's Scottish Premiership opener with Celtic, having impressed on trial at New Douglas Park.

His arrival follows the capture of striker Tunde Owolabi from FC United of Manchester on Wednesday and Odoffin becomes the club's fifth summer signing.

Odoffin told the club website: “It feels really good to finally get the deal done.

"Since I got here everyone has been really welcoming. It’s good to get started and prepare for the beginning of the league.

“I’ve experienced the league now, I’ve played the games and it’s something I’m looking to thrive on.

“I want to grow as a player in the team, to play my part and do what I can to be successful as possible as a club.”

Odoffin, who had a spell in English League Two with Northampton Town, joined Livingston in January 2019 and made seven appearances for Gary Holt's men in the Premiership last season.

Accies hope the former Tottenham youth player will fill the void at right-back following Aaron McGowan's move to Kilmarnock and he could start Sunday's clash at Parkhead.

Odoffin added: "It’s a big game, we have been working towards it and we are looking forward to it.

"Last season definitely gives me confidence, they are a great team any game in this league you have to believe you can get a result, this is no different.”

Accies gaffer Brian Rice is delighted to get his man on board ahead of the season opener.

He said: "Hakeem is a natural right-back, he’s quick and he’s got all the attributes we are looking for.

"I think he will do well for us.

“It’s a young group we have and we need some players who have played at this level to help.

"He is still a young lad but he’s got some good experience behind him.”

Accies still have ex-Dundee United winger Justin Johnson on trial and Rice is looking to tie up a deal with the Dutch youngster soon.
