Hamilton Accies' Shaun Want admits celebrating with fans was a special moment after stunning comeback

Shaun Want admits it was a special moment to celebrate his last-minute equaliser in front of the Hamilton Accies fans.

The 24-year-old missed the majority of last season with an injury but the captain led by example to complete Accies’ incredible comeback with four goals in 26 minutes.

Want’s equaliser sparked delirious scenes amongst the travelling contingent as the academy graduate ran to celebrate with them.

“It was a special moment to celebrate in front of the fans,” said Want. “I was only up there because my legs had gone and I was struggling to move.

“I said to Reegan [Mimnaugh] that I’d be better going up top because I was causing us more hassle at that back.

“I managed to glance at the header and it drifted in - it was a great feeling.

“We never give up. There is always a chance and it is so important to get the first goal because you get more belief.

“It just shows the character in our squad but we know that it wasn’t good enough for the opening hour.

“The mentality has always been the same since I’ve been at this football club. There’s a togetherness and a determination to do well.

“People always right us off and call us a small team but we also fight against everyone that we face.

“The manager always asks us to give 110 percent on the pitch so that’s the minimum that the players can do.”

Accies boss Brian Rice lavished praise on substitutes Andy Ryan, Scott McMann and David Templeton and Want agrees that the trio changed the game.

He said: “I don’t think the amount of injuries that we’ve had is a secret. It’s been second to none in the last 18 months but it’s like having a whole new squad with them coming back.

“You see the quality that they have and it’s going to make a huge difference to us. They provided that spark that we needed.

“We need that attacking intent in this season and everyone in the changing room is happy. We need to make sure that we never go 4-0 down again though.”
