Hamilton Accies' Ross Callachan is enjoying his football more than any other point in his career

Hamilton Accies midfielder Ross Callachan is absolutely loving life at the Lanarkshire club.

The midfielder has been a revelation since joining in the summer from St Johnstone and has scored six goals already - his highest league total in his career.

The 27 year-old is an integral part of a Hamilton side looking to avoid relegation and Callachan revealed he's never enjoyed his football more than this season.

He said: "It’s the most I’ve enjoyed my football for a long, long time because I’m playing week in,week out.I feel really comfortable because I come in everyday and I enjoy my work which I’ve not said for a long time.

"That’s the main thing for me and I think that shows with my performances on the pitch. I want to chip in with as many goals as I can. I never set myself any targets but double figures would be nice, it's doable."

Accies boss Brian Rice has been a huge admirer of Callachan for years, tracking his career and he didn't hesitate to sign him in the summer.

Callachan had spent months out injured after suffering a broken leg against Partick Thistle and the Edinburgh born midfielder truly appreciates Rice's support.

He said: "He’s been absolutely massive for me. He showed a lot of faith in me to bring me to the club after my leg break - a lot of players might not have come back.

“I’m just happy that I’ve repaid his faith with my performances and managed to chip in with a few goals to show he made the right decision.

"He relies on me, which I like, and he’s played me loads so I appreciate that. It’s really good to have that manager who believes in you and it makes you feel wanted.”

Callahan has been utilised in various roles this season but he's flourished in a more advanced role where he can impact the game higher up the pitch.

He's scored some vital winning goals for Accies this season and he revealed that he prefers to play in a more advanced role ahead of a huge game against Ross County.

The former Hearts man said: "I enjoy getting forward and getting chances on goal because that’s a big part of my game.

"When I’m playing higher up, I’m close to the goal and I’ll get more chances so the gaffer has recognised that - it really suits me.

“County have picked up since they got a new manager. I’m not surprised that they’ve picked up a few results because I’ve worked with Yogi before and I know what he’s like.

"It’s a massive game for us because it can move us off the bottom of the table and go above them.”

Callachan was paying attention to the latest news on transfer deadline day on Monday and he's looking forward to combining with new signing Bruce Anderson.

Callachan said: “I’ve heard that Bruce is a good player and he’s hungry to do well so he will suit us. I’d tell him to work his socks off because that’s what the gaffer demands.

“If he can work hard and chip in with a few goals, which he is here to do, then I’ll be really happy. He seems to be a player who likes the ball in the box and he looks really sharp.

"He’s the type of player who only needs half a yard to get a shot away and that’s the type of player that we’ve been needing.”
