Hamilton Accies release defender from contract

Hamilton Accies have today released defender Kieran MacDonald from his contract.

The 28-year-old, who can also operate in midfield, asked the New Douglas Park club to be let go so he can concentrate on "his own employment needs".

It's believed that MacDonald, who has also played for Clyde and Airdrie, wants to go part-time.

Rutherglen-born MacDonald has spent two spells at Hamilton, the first being in 2014-15, and when he joined from Raith Rovers for the second time in 2021, it was on condition that they accommodated his engineering career into his contract.

But a statement issued by the club read: "Defender Kieran MacDonald has been released today.

"Kieran scored twice in 37 appearances last season, his second spell here, where he has made 54 appearances in total.

"Kieran has been great for us, but wants to move on to suit his own employment needs and he departs with our best wishes."
