Hamilton Accies regained their scoring touch against Inverness, says goal hero Lewis Smith

Hamilton goal-hero Lewis Smith reckons his side rediscovered their scoring form against Championship leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and the 2-1 win will be a huge confidence boost for the rest of the season.

The midfielder opened the scoring after only five minutes at New Douglas Park, and chipped in with an assist for Andy Ryan, who doubled Accies' lead in 26 minutes.

Hamilton then made life difficult for themselves as Reegan Mimnaugh received his second yellow card and an early bath on the half-hour, but they held on for a good win.

Smith, who scored his second goal of the season, said: "I think it was a brilliant team performance. We started flying. We got two quick goals and I think we were pretty comfortable.

"I don't think they were troubling us that much and then obviously we made it a bit harder for ourselves.

"But the team stuck together. I think the work ethic was brilliant and we really deserved the three points.

"The manager always says from the start we have to press teams and we had a really good start, lots of energy and that's what we did."

The 21-year-old was delighted to get on the scoresheet, which was his first involvement.

He added: "I think that was my first proper touch of the game to be honest and it was a good one.

"I think the more you play with each other, the more you know what each other is like on the park.

"Andy was demanding the ball back, so I knew he must've had a shot on and he found the corner brilliantly so I'm really happy for him."

It's onwards and upwards now for Accies who went into today's fixture second bottom of the Scottish Championship.

And a huge three points against against leaders Inverness, who have now only conceded four goals in the league, will be a huge confidence boost for Stuart Taylor's men as they look to climb the table.

Next up is Aberdeen 'B' on Wednesday in the SPFL Trust Trophy third round, before clashing with Partick Thistle in a fortnight.

Smith hopes he and his side can build on yesterday's goals with confidence as they look forward.

"We've not won at home for a while so it was good to get that win and obviously Inverness are top of the table so that gives us a lot of confidence going forward", Smith said.

"It's great to get the goals. You try not to think about how you've not been scoring, but everybody knows.

"We have still been creating chances in recent games but it's just about putting them away and today we managed to so that's good for the team."
