Hamilton Accies' new boy can't wait to show fans what he can do

Jonny Ngandu can’t wait to meet Hamilton fans and show them what he can do, after signing a deal with the New Douglas Park club.

The 20-year-old midfielder says he’s comfortable in an attacking or holding role, and wants to get out there and enjoy his football again.

Ngandu was released by Coventry City during the summer after spending 13 years with the Midlands club, and is happy that Hamilton Accies have picked him up so quickly.

He could be in line to make his competitive debut today against Dundee at Dens Park in the Premier Sports Cup, and is eager to get stuck in.

He said: “I can’t wait to meet all the fans and for them to see what I can do on and off the pitch.

“I like scoring, assisting and just enjoying myself on the pitch.

“I’m looking forward to it and, if selected, I’ll put in 100 per cent as I always do.

“It’s a big game. I heard they’re a big club and got relegated from the Premiership last season, so it will be a tough test, but we’re looking forward to it.

“I’m looking forward to it, and I know it’s going to be a good challenge.”

Ngandu, who spent time in Iceland with Keflavik on loan, says he’s looking forward to life in the Scottish Championship, and says it’s great to have been picked up within a month of leaving City.

He said: “Being at a club like Coventry City was good.

“I signed there at the age of seven, so I’ve come up through the ranks and enjoyed all my time there.

“They had good staff, good players, and because it was such a big club you have to be so professional in everything you do.

“I enjoyed that aspect as well, and it made me mature, which has helped me to blend in here.

“I’m looking forward to the next level for my career, I’d say, which is at this big club.”

Ngandu added: “I’m so happy, because I just wanted to get back playing football again, after being released, and I’m glad it has happened so quickly, as well.

“I think the league is good, it’s decent. The boys are telling me it’s a tough league but a league to get you better.

“Mostly the games are going to be battles, but that’s a side of my game that I need to get better at, so I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be competitive, and that’s the difference between under-23s [in England] and playing here.

“People will be on my back and that’s the only way you can get better, by people testing you in every game.

“I enjoy pressure, I think I play better under pressure, so we’ll see what happens.”
