Hamilton Accies further Covid testing confirmed as club look to emerge from shutdown

Hamilton Accies players and staff will be subject to further Covid testing tomorrow ahead of their return to training, the JRG have confirmed.

Three players will have to isolate for 10 days following positive results earlier this week.

Accies’ defender Lee Hodson, who lives with St Mirren goalkeeper Jak Alnwick who returned a positive test, is also currently in a 14-day isolation.

Chairman Allan Maitland had told Lanarkshire Live Sport earlier today that he was concerned about the impact of losing any more players with EIGHT players potentially at risk of missing the game on Saturday, including injuries.

A Joint Response Group statement read: "Further testing of the remainder of the players and back room staff at Hamilton Academical will take place tomorrow, 17 September, ahead of the club’s next game this Saturday."

Neil Doncaster, CEO of the SPFL commented: “Given the current incidence of the virus in the community, we are likely to see more and more positive tests for Covid-19 amongst Premiership teams.

"This situation once again emphasises the importance of our current testing regime in reducing the likelihood of the virus spreading unchecked through Premiership first team squads, and in increasing the chances of us being able to complete season 2020/21.”
