Hamilton Accies Covid blow as they confirm new positive test

Hamilton Accies have confirmed an individual at the club has tested positive for Covid-19 in the latest round of testing.

Training at the club was cancelled yesterday and the club held their scheduled press conference today via video call over Zoom, although players did report for training at New Douglas Park today.

The individual involved came back positive in Monday's round of testing and further tests have been carried out today.

It comes after three players returned false positive tests earlier this month and defender Lee Hodson was forced to self-isolate for 14 days after his house mate, St Mirren goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, tested positive.

The individual will now have to self-isolate for 10 days, even if his results prove to be another false positive.

And should it be a first team player, it means a selection headache for gaffer Brian Rice ahead of Friday night's trip to Hibernian.

The news of Accies' positive tests comes just hours after Premiership rivals Kilmarnock announced three individuals at the club returned positive tests ahead of their home clash with Motherwell.

A statement released by Hamilton Accies read: "The club can confirm one individual has produced a positive result from Monday’s COVID-19 testing.

"This individual is now isolating as per Scottish Government and JRG guidelines."

Accies are set to travel to the capital on Friday to tackle high-flying Hibs.
