Hamilton Accies confirm players and staff have tested negative for Covid-19 after St Mirren clash

Hamilton Accies have confirmed their players and staff have tested negative for coronavirus after last week's opponents, St Mirren, reported seven positive cases this evening.

The Paisley club have gone into lockdown after members of their backroom team tested positive for Covid-19, five days after Accies beat the Buddies 2-1 in a friendly clash at New Douglas Park.

Hamilton are set to play Motherwell in a bounce game on Saturday and head to champions Celtic on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership campaign on August 2.

A statement from Accies read: "Following the departure of the St Mirren squad on Saturday the area used was cleaned and disinfected.

"The location occupied by St Mirren was a segregated area at the far end of our stadium and is separate from the areas used by Hamilton Accies’ players and staff on a matchday.

"Subsequently on Monday, all players and backroom staff were tested with all results returned negative.

"Hamilton Academical will continue to follow advice from the SFA/SPFL joint response group."
