Hamilton Accies chief executive thanks fans for their loyal support

Hamilton Accies chief executive Colin McGowan has thanked the club's fans for their endless support as their time in the Scottish Premiership ended last week.

McGowan said the Lanarkshire outfit will "relish the fight" of getting back to the top flight, after their seven year relationship with Scotland's elite came crashing down, finishing last in this season's campaign.

But, despite suffering a season from hell with players out due to contracting coronavirus, a host of injuries, a low spending budget and a bad run of form, McGowan is adamant Brian Rice's side can and will perform well in the Scottish Championship next season.

He told Lanarkshire Live : "After a seven year run in the top flight of Scottish football we are now relegated to the Championship where we will start to build once again.

"It's fair to say we did not have the best of seasons and we could use various excuses including the pandemic, no supporters in the stands to spur us on, a lack of money and more but the reality is that in over 38 games we were simply not good enough to compete.

"So we will now turn our attentions to getting supporters back in the stands and we will make our time in the Championship one to remember for all the right reasons."

McGowan has said he has received dozens of messages of support this season from fans and sponsors alike and is urging supporters to follow his side's Championship journey in the coming season.

He added; "We are so thankful to our fans, who have stuck by this club through thick and thin.

"They really have been amazing and we can't wait to welcome them back to the Foy's Stadium when restrictions are lifted.

"We are also delighted to announce there will be a host of special offers in the season ahead to make match days memorable and we ask that supporters and sponsors, past, present and future, all once again get right behind the team as we battle our way back to the Premiership.

"It won't be an easy ride with our budget restrictions, but with your support we can do it.

"I mean looking back, if anyone had told the board at Hamilton Accies 18 years ago that we would spend seven consecutive years in the Scottish Premiership we'd have laughed them out the door.

"But we did and in the end even the pundits and media were backing us to stay up. So please stick with us some more.

"In the meantime we'll look forward to this season and indeed our cup challenge too which kicks off with the Premier Sports Cup on July 10."

Accies Championship season then kicks off on July 31.
