Hamilton Accies chairman hopes to complete loan move for Aberdeen youngster Bruce Anderson

Hamilton Accies are close to completing a loan move for Aberdeen youngster Bruce Anderson.

The 22-year-old striker is a player Accies have tried to sign in the last two windows and the deal to bring the youngster to New Douglas Park could be completed in the next few hours.

Terms are currently being thrashed out between the clubs and the player, with Accies hopeful of an announcement shortly.

It's a huge boost for the Premiership's bottom side after a host of deals to bring in a striker fell, through, most notably Craig Wighton and George Oakley.

Accies chairman Allan Maitland said: "I'm trying to make that happen.

"I think it's pretty clear that we need to get some striking options in, and I'm hoping to have that done.

"We have Marios Ogkmpoe back and I'm hoping to have Nathan Thomas back, who is back training, and we're hoping Lewis Smith hopefully back in the next couple of weeks and that obviously strengthens that, but we need another goal-scorer.

"I've been trying hard in the transfer window to strengthen that area and if it comes off as I hope it will do, I'd be delighted if Bruce Anderson would be the player to help us again.

"We've been bidding for a lot of players and been unsuccessful with a lot of players who have chosen to go elsewhere, so it has been a difficult window.

"That's not terribly unusual, just what we've got to deal with and we've got to keep working on bringing the right players in.

"We need a goal threat and Bruce Anderson would definitely be a great addition.

"We've been looking at Bruce for a while. We discussed with Aberdeen about having Bruce in before, so it has been something that has been mooted before, didn't happen, and even in this transfer window it's something that has been discussed, but we can't do that until such time as Aberdeen know exactly what they're doing.

"I'm reluctant to bring in players that aren't going to make that much of a difference, so I was willing to hang fire and hold on to see if I could get somebody who would make a difference, and I think Bruce can.

"It's agreed but still to be signed and everything else."

Hamilton weren't expecting to do any business today, but Florian Kamberi's expected loan move from Swiss side St Gallen to the Dons has opened up an opportunity for Accies to swoop.

And Maitland added: "It is possible that other free transfers and loans might come in but we have a lot of players coming back and that makes a massive difference to the squad, so I don't want to add players just for the sake of adding them.

"We might be bottom of the league but I think our squad is good and if we can get everybody fit and playing then I think we will be very competitive."
