Hamilton Accies chairman Allan Maitland hopes for signings next week

Hamilton Accies chairman Allan Maitland hopes to add to his squad by the end of next week, as he prepares to welcome players back to training.

Players will be back at New Douglas Park on Monday for testing, and those who pass will resume training on Wednesday, July 1, as the Premiership side prepares for kick-off.

And he says Hamilton need to make sure they're firing on all cylinders from the opening game.

Maitland knows Accies need to strengthen in key areas ahead of the new season, and is working hard to make that happen.

He said: "I'm at the stage where I'm trying to bring players in, so I'm working on that.

"I have a list of prospects and I'm working my way through them, so it's just a case of finding out where they all are, what their thoughts are, and where they are with everything.

"That is going all right at the moment and I'm hopeful that I'll have some new faces in by the end of next week."

On players returning to training, Maitland said: "The boys are in on Monday for testing, two days prior, so we can get the results before they can start.

"Then they will be in training on Wednesday, but only those who pass their test, obviously, which I'm expecting to be them all."

Maitland is eager to get back to football, especially with so much available, but says playing behind closed doors will be interesting.

"Now that football is on TV and you're watching games down south I've found that quite interesting, so getting the guys back in and getting them ready for games in August will be a massive thing. I'm excited by it.

"Playing games behind closed doors will take a bit of getting used to, it's something new.

"I think that's all about attitude, and how the players are, so we need to make sure the attitude is right, right from the start.

"It would be quite easy to almost treat it like a training game or a bounce game, because of the lack of atmosphere, and before you know it you've lost three or four games, so it's important that we start the games right."

Meanwhile, Maitland admits he was astonished that the club received £50,000 from businessman James Anderson via the SPFL Trust for community use, and says it's an incredible gesture.

He said: "It’s money that would be spent on the youth anyway, but it's a real bonus for the community aspect.

"It's a fantastic gesture, just the idea that somebody is giving every club that level of money is just quite incredible.

“We will make sure it’s spent properly.”
