Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor: We're a long way from where we want to be

Stuart Taylor says his rebuilding job at Hamilton Accies is going to take time, and admits they're nowhere near where they want to be.

Taylor has always said it won't be a quick fix after taking over from Brian Rice, who resigned in August, and that hasn't been helped with back-to-back Championship defeats against Ayr United and Arbroath, leaving them second-bottom in the table, a point above Saturday's opponents Dunfermline.

The Accies head coach didn't put any more importance on the clash at East End Park, and says all games are 'must-win' as far as he's concerned, but they are trying to improve.

He said: "'Must-wins'? You want to win every game, don't you?

"It's exactly as we are, we're really still building things and learning things, and trying to improve - that's where we are.

"I thought on Saturday in the first half we dominated a large amount of possession, so that was good on that side, but when you look at the end stats, the amount of goal-scoring opportunities, the amount of shots that we had, it needs to be better, we need to be more ruthless.

Taylor says Hamilton didn't take their chances against Ayr (Adam Law)

"We lost the game, so it's not good enough.

"Things are getting better, but we're still a good long way away from where we would like to be.

"A win would be great everywhere we go, and at home as well. As much as we're working hard at everything we're doing, we want to win games, and we're trying our hardest to do that.

"We're building and we're trying to do things right, and looking at the bigger picture, but we want to win every game.

"It's not a deflection off results or anything like that - we're building something, and we know it's not going to be a fix overnight, we said that when we first came in."

When asked where it went wrong for Accies against Jim Duffy's Ayr United, Taylor said: "Putting the ball in the net. It's as simple as that - we didn't put the ball in the back of the net, and we weren't ruthless enough and closed the back door in the second half.

Striker Andy Ryan was left frustrated against Ayr (Adam Law)

"I said to the lads at half-time to just be careful; when you dominate games as much as what we've dominated the first half, there is a tendency to switch off at the back and get caught cold on their counter, on the sucker-punch, and to just not let that happen - but it happened.

"We were very comfortable in possession, we were really in their final third and probing, trying to break them down.

"We had a wee one-two that went just a little bit out of place - a yard out of place - and then they knocked the ball over the top and hit us on the counter.

"That's something we speak about a lot, and that's something that we will try to improve on, but we cannot let that happen.

"That's something that we need to be better with."
