Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor is the 'perfect fit' to get us back to Premiership, says Brian Easton

Hamilton Accies skipper Brian Easton reckons new head coach Stuart Taylor is the perfect fit to kickstart their promotion bid to get back to the Scottish Premiership.

The pair previously worked together at Accies between 2007-2009 when Taylor was assistant manager to Billy Reid in the top flight, so the defender knows exactly what Accies are getting from their new gaffer.

Taylor watched the first 70 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Championship leaders Kilmarnock from the stand as coaches Guillaume Beuzelin and George Cairns took the side - before making an earlier than expected dugout debut when he came down to take charge.

Easton felt that showed just how keen the former Ipswich Town coach is to turn the club's fortunes around after picking up just one point from their opening three games.

And he believes the club has the right man for the job.

Easton said: "As soon as I heard his name mentioned I thought: ‘That’s a great fit.’

"He’s been here before, he knows the club.

“Having had him as a coach he was great with me when I was coming up as a youngster.

"Since then he’s had a lot of experience at great levels, he's been about all over the place as a coach.

“He’s going to bring that with him and pass it on to us at this club. I’m delighted he's here and, from the brief time speaking to him, his ideas sound good and we’ll have no problem with boys buying into it.

"He's a really positive coach.

"We'll just need to see how he wants us to set up. I don't think he's looking to change things right away, but I think he'll gradually do it, and there's boys in that changing room that will give their all for him.

"It just shows you [Taylor coming down from the stand] how much he wants to get in amongst it.

"He'll get his chance to put his stamp on things when he starts [this morning] and with the group we have, he won’t have any problems with that.

"Everyone will buy into it and hopefully we can get that first win in the next game."

A Scott Robinson double in the space of 10 second half minutes proved enough to take the points for Killie, but Easton felt his side deserved better.

Lewis Spence missed a glorious chance just five minutes before the visitors broke the deadlock and their defending at the goals they conceded left a lot to be desired.

Easton added: "I thought we were just a little bit off it. We had a couple of good chances but we couldn't bury them.

"When you look at all the goals we've lost this season, we should be doing much better.

"Everyone is gutted because we want to go on a run and be competitive in this league, and I don't think we are far off doing that.

"We've got a new manager and when he spoke to us on Friday he was really encouraging, really positive about everything.

"Knowing him, he'll definitely get a lot out of this team because we've got a lot of quality in there.

"Kilmarnock have got a lot of quality and experience there.

"I didn't think there was a lot in the game.

"We lost a couple of sloppy goals and didn't take our chances.

"You expect Kilmarnock to be up there challenging. We expect ourselves to be up there challenging as well.

"It's not the start we wanted, but it's a long season.

"It's important we don't get too disheartened but we need to fix these things.

"But it doesn't just happen, the work needs to go in."

Accies now head to Queen of the South on Saturday in search of that first win.
