Hamilton Accies boss Rice praises Ross Callachan and jokes about £3 million pound price tag

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice was fulsome in praise for Ross Callachan after the midfielder's goalscoring exploits this season.

The 27 year-old has been a revelation this season and he scored a brilliant goal against St Johnstone on Wednesday to further enhance his reputation.

The former Hearts man has contributed as many goals and assists (12) as David Turnbull, Kevin Nisbet, Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe this season.

"Does that mean he's worth £3 million quid?" Rice joked about the Callachan's value in comparison to some of the Premiership's top stars.

"I can't praise Ross Callachan highly enough. We are talking about a lad who broke his leg last January and didn't play until the end of the season.

"He came in here in the summer and he's been everything I thought he would be, and more.

"I liked him as a player because he's forward thinking and he wants to score goals.

"I just think he's found a home here, we appreciate him and he appreciates us - he fits in fantastically well.

"He's not the brightest guy in the world and I think that helps him but he takes it all in good spirit.

"At clubs he's been at previously, he's never really been a starter all the time. He's been a squad player who could come in and do a job against anybody.

"But here, he's found himself playing most weeks and the only time he hasn't played or started is when he was caught in covid situations.

"He loves his football and he loves his training. He wants to win every game and I think he's got Tourette's myself - he's off his head.

"But in a fantastic way because he brings a brilliant spirit to training. I really enjoy working with him and I'm sure he enjoys training as well."
