Hamilton Accies boss reacts to ex-Rangers defender Lee Hodson 14-day self isolation

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice admits "it's very frustrating and difficult" to deal with Lee Hodson's 14-day self-isolation.

The former Rangers defender signed at New Douglas Park on loan from Gillingham this window.

However, Accies confirmed today that he has been required to stay at home since Tuesday (September 8) as a result of being in close contact with a player who has tested positive for Covid-19.

Rice today confirmed that the Northern Ireland cap lives with the St Mirren player who has the virus.

Speaking at the press conference today, Rice said:  “Unfortunately Lee has been in contact with someone who has tested positive, so the rules are that he needs to self-isolate for 14 days.

“It’s just unfortunate but it’s the world we live in at the moment. It won’t be the first time and it won’t be the last time this happens in the coming months.

“He was in on Monday morning and he has had a negative test, but with the track and trace system it has been flagged up so he has to isolate.

“The rest of the players have been tested and it’s come back negative so we hope it’s an isolated case for us.

“Lee lodges with the lad who is doing him a favour until he gets set up here with his family to come and live.

“It’s well documented now that a player at St Mirren has tested positive and Lee is obviously in that household.

He added: “It’s very frustrating and difficult to deal with because we don’t know everything.

"It’s a grey area for me and a bit strange that somebody who has tested positive gets a 10 day isolation period whereas somebody who hasn’t got it gets 14 days.

"You've got the team in your head and then something outwith the football changes the circumstances."
