Hamilton Accies boss "quietly confident" of new signings after Ross County cup shock

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin is "quietly confident" of adding two more new signings this week and reckons their Scottish Cup scalp of Ross County might just help seal the deal.

Rankin has already bolstered this month with the additions of Tom Sparrow on loan from Stoke City and Dylan McGowan on loan from Kilmarnock.

And both players played their part in helping Accies see off the Staggies to book their place in the fifth round - with McGowan also one of the successful penalty takers in the 5-3 shootout triumph alongside matchwinner Andy Ryan.

The club are keen to add more fresh blood to boost their Championship campaign after a tough first half of the season that has left them bottom of the table.

And Rankin hopes to do just that in the coming days.

After sending County crashing out and pocketing some unexpected prize money for the club, he said: "I'm quitely confident there will be another two players in this week at some point.

"Our league position is at the bottom of the league and we are trying to get away from that, but the mood is changing.

"We've brought two players in already and it has given the boys a huge lift and hopefully there's more players like that this week because it makes a massive difference."

Asked if the cup success might sway any potential players, he smiled: "It might help convince the chairman!

"But, yeah, hopefully this will convince the players to come. When you put cup runs together like we have done it helps build momentum.

"We had a 17-year-old left back [Chrissy McGinn] and a 19-year-old centre-back [Fergus Owens] playing today so that shows we are bringing through young players and giving them the chance to go and express themselves.

"I thought the two of them looked like they had played at this level for a long time."

Accies are firmly in the hat for tomorrow evening's draw, with both sides of the Old Firm joining them.

Asked who he would like in the draw, Rankin said: "The main thing is we are in the draw. In the last 16 you know there are big teams in it but I am not too fussed.

"I would love another home tie but I'm just delighted to be there."
