Hamilton Accies boss eyes new striker ahead of Falkirk cup clash

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice admits his side are light in the striking department, as he hopes to bring in more players before this weekend's Premier Sports Cup clash against his old club Falkirk.

The Championship side boosted their ranks on Monday with the capture of defensive midfielder Lewis Spence from Scunthorpe to add to their four other summer recruits: striker Andy Ryan, goalkeeper Joe Hilton, plus Martin Shiels and Kieran McDonald, who are both left-backs

But Rice says there is still plenty of business to be conducted.

Asked if there would be more new signings before the weekend, he revealed: "There might be. At this moment in time there is a chance, but we just need to wait and see.

"The priority is to get better players in than we have at the moment in two or three positions.

"I think we are a bit light in the striking department at the minute and we could do with at least one more body there.

"We know that and that may be a position we are looking to fill, but there will be two or three players coming in shortly."

Talisman Hakeem Odoffin is one player the club are still desperate to hang on to and Rice said there have been no enquiries for the player since the season began.

Odoffin was in fine form as Accies kicked-off their League Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Edinburgh City on Friday night, with fans chanting "please don't go" in his direction.

Rice will be counting down the hours until the transfer window slams shut on August 31 and he said: "We'd love to keep him here.

"He's done fantastically well for us and he wears his heart on his sleeve.

"I think all the fans appreciate that and we all appreciate it, but the best players go here at Hamilton and we've got to try and keep him here as long as we can.

"Hopefully, it's for the whole of this season."

Accies travel to Falkirk on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
