Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice reveals that his transfer business might not be finished

Hamilton Academical boss Brian Rice revealed his phone is still ringing constantly despite the transfer window closing.

Rice secured his main target Bruce Anderson, on loan from Aberdeen, on deadline day but the Accies manager insisted his business might not be over.

Clubs are still able to sign free agents and Rice has already recruited two excellent free transfers this season in Aaron Martin and Nathan Thomas.

The 57 year-old confirmed that he’s already been inundated with calls, adding: “My phone has been ringing already this morning with people asking if I want to have a look at people.

“It’s very difficult to have a look at people with the Covid situation but we will try our best to see if someone is available who can help us.

“There were players who had their contracts terminated yesterday so they remain an option because they won’t have a club.

“Finances are very tight, there are no fans in and nobody expected us to be in this position come February.

“We expected some fans to be back and that’s never materialised. It’s very difficult for every club, if you look at the transfer window throughout Britain - spending was way down.

“We will get what we can afford but the most important thing is that the club survives, Hamilton Academical survives.”

It’s been an uncertain transfer market due to the impact of Covid and uncertainty over finances. The English Premier League saw a 48% drop in the total amount of transfers and it was a similar story around the globe.

Rice revealed earlier in the window that Covid restrictions in Scotland prevented him from adding a couple of players.

The Hamilton boss made approaches for numerous players and he discussed how many offers were made to transfer targets.

He said: “I made offers for seven players throughout the window. I thought I had two on the very first day of the window and they fell through.

“The rest were made offers and we looked at loads of players. I knew I was restricted on how many I could bring in because whoever comes in needs to be better than I’ve got.

“They needed to be a first-team player and we were looking for one or two people but it became very frustrating.

They are not always reported, as I read yesterday, but offers were made to seven or eight players.”
