Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice issues injury update ahead of derby clash

Hamilton Accies head coach Brian Rice expects midfielder Blair Alston to be available for the visit by Motherwell on Saturday.

The 27-year-old picked up a knock in training last Thursday, which ruled him out of the Betfred Cup last 16 game at Kilmarnock at the weekend, but this was a precautionary move.

However, defender Ciaran McKenna is unlikely to feature, midfielder Scott Martin is catching up with pre-season training, and stopper Brian Easton sits out the second of a two-game suspension.

Rice said: "Scott Martin is still a wee bit away. He missed pre-season, he's back now doing his pre-season as we speak. Ciaran McKenna is still struggling and Brian Easton is suspended.

"Blair Alston will train, so he should be available. Blair had a calf strain, he hurt himself on Thursday morning, so it was something we couldn't take a chance with and I had Will Collar ready to come in and play his first game.

"I'm not going to sit here and complain about missing that one or this one, I have a squad and I have what I have. Whoever I pick, I have complete trust in.

"I have boys there competing with others for positions so it it doesn't matter their age, as long as they're good enough."
