Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice has "never been this embarrassed" after cup defeat to Annan

Hamilton Accies coach Brian Rice admits he has "never been this embarrassed" after their shock defeat to Annan.

First half goals from Steven Swinglehurst, Tyler Fulton and Jack Purdue gave Annan their third win in four years over Accies, who grabbed a second half consolation through Scott McMann.

And after the humiliating result, Rice told the club website: “I am totally embarrassed, I have never been this embarrassed.

"Two of the goals came from set-plays, it wasn’t great play by Annan but individual mistakes which cost us here tonight.

"These players are Premiership players, they should be on that pitch tonight and winning games like these let me make that clear.

"It is embarrassing not to.

“I stand here most weeks and I’m held accountable, today the players have to share that I’m not going to make excuses. Individual mistakes are what have cost us here tonight.”

Rice also took aim at his mis-firing strikers ahead of their clash at home to Ayr this weekend.

He added: “I haven’t had a striker score a goal for us all season. We are giving them the opportunities it is up to them to take them.

“I need to go away and think about who I will pick and what is my strongest team to get a result on Saturday.”
