Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice gives Lewis Smith injury update after Scotland under-21 call-off

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice is optimistic of a quick return to first-team action for midfielder Lewis Smith.

The 20-year-old missed the defeat to Rangers last weekend and pulled out of the Scotland under-21 squad yesterday.

Rice revealed that Smith had pulled up with a hamstring injury in training last Thursday, but was hopeful of avoiding a lengthy injury lay-off with the season on hold for the international break.

“Lewis pulled up in training with a hamstring injury," he told Lanarkshire Live Sport .

“Lewis was down to play against Rangers, and it was a blow that he missed out on because he scored two goals against Rangers last year.

“He gets us up the pitch with his running forward with the ball. He had to get pulled out of the under-21 team as well, but we’re hopeful he’ll be back soon.”
