Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice expects final day decider in relegation battle

Brian Rice predicts that Hamilton's fight to avoid relegation will be decided on the final day of the season.

Accies face St Mirren tomorrow just one point ahead of bottom side Kilmarnock who play Hamilton's Lanarkshire rivals, Motherwell.

Ross County sit just three points ahead of Accies in 10th place and Rice expects a tense climax to the season.

He said: "I'd expect it to go down to the last week but it's amazing what two or three results can do to you.

"We just need to take it one game at a time and we look forward to it. We are prepared for it but we can't look too far away and have to concentrate on the next game.

"It's the business end of the season and there might be a little bit of nerves from some teams. I see that normally happening at this time of the season but we've got to try and overcome that.

"We need to keep a calm head and do the best that we can."

Hamilton will be boosted by the return of Scott McMann from injury tomorrow against Jim Goodwin's side.

The 24 year-old missed last weekend's defeat to Livingston and Rice revealed that several other players barely trained ahead of that clash.

He said: "Scott McMann should be back but I've got one or two other concerns that I need to look at in training.

"Scott's been consistent all season and I think it's been his best season for us. He was a miss last week, there's no doubt about that, because in the final third, he gets crosses in and there's an end product.

"It was a Friday afternoon decision and he felt as though he couldn't do it. We had three or four players who didn't train last week until the Friday and we had one player who didn't train at all due to family circumstances.

"We've not got our problems to seek, we are down to our bare bones but we will be ready to go tomorrow."

Matches between Hamilton and St Mirren have been extremely tight in recent years and Rice is expecting similar tomorrow.

"They've been close games with St Mirren, the two times we've played them this season. We lost 1-0 at home and drew 1-1 in Paisley so I don't think there will be too much between the teams.

"I'm concerned every week by where we are sitting in the table because we always want to be better than we are.

"If I was sitting in seventh then I'd be concerned because I'd want to be sixth and that never changes.

"We don't need to talk too much about it {relegation battle}, other people do that for us.

"It's just that time of the year where people are looking at the top of the league, bottom of the league and European places.

"We're in a position where we know where we are but we don't need to speak about it everyday.

"That just brings add pressure, I want the boys to be relaxed and to go out and enjoy the game but give it everything they've got," Rice, concluded.
