Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice confident that Hakeem Odoffin will extend deal

Hamilton Academical manager Brian Rice is confident that Hakeem Odoffin will extend his contract at the Lanarkshire club.

The 22-year has been outstanding for Accies this season but his contract is set to expire this summer.

But boss Rice confirmed that talks are ongoing and he is hopeful that Odoffin will be a Hamilton player next season.

He said: "There has been talks between the chairman, Hakeem and his agent. I think there might be an announcement.

"I've not spoke to the chairman fully on it but I am hopeful. I'm more than hopeful that we can get it sorted because he's been great since he came into the club.

"He's the exact same everyday in training and he's got a great personality.

"He's popular amongst the players and most importantly, he does very well when he puts his strip on every Saturday.

"I would love to get Hakeem signed up again."

Odoffin is an extremely versatile footballer and he has been deployed in different position this season to great success.

The former Tottenham youth-player has made more interceptions than any under-23 player in Europe and leads the Premiership for blocked shots.

Although he was signed predominately to play at right-back, Rice has been delighted with his attitude and ability to play in different roles.

He said: "He's done fantastically well. I've asked him to play different positions and do different jobs.

"I think that's helped because sometimes you can go a bit stale.

"Players can go a bit stale when asked to do the same things every week.

"It's been a mental challenge for him to move position but any position I ask him to play, he gives it everything he's got.

"Before every game, Saturday or midweek, I know exactly what I'm going to get from him and that's invaluable as a coach."
