Hamilton Accies announce Scottish Cup match against Rangers to kick off one minute late

This weekend’s Hamilton Accies v Rangers game  is set to kick off a minute late.

Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash, at the Fountain of Youth stadium, was due to begin at 12.30pm.

However, the Lanarkshire outfit this week announced the match will kick off instead at 12.31pm.

The move comes in a bid for football fans to spend that minute simply talking to each other.

Hamilton Accies chief executive Colin McGowan told the Advertiser this week: “Our Scottish Cup tie against Rangers FC on Saturday will kick off now at 12.31pm.

“We will start one minute later to urge you to ‘take a minute’ to talk to your friends and fellow supporters, to help us break down the stigma and encourage conversation around mental health.

“For other teams this may be a new  initiative, but at Accies we are always supportive of such causes .”

Last month the Football Association announced that all Emirates FA Cup third-round fixtures down south were to be delayed by one minute to encourage fans to ‘Take A Minute’ to think about looking after their mental health, as part of the ‘Heads Up’ campaign.
