Hamilton Accies and Motherwell receive cash windfalls from Premiership

Hamilton Accies made £288,000 from their 10th-placed Premiership finish in the season just passed.

Scotland’s 42 senior clubs shared a £9 million interim payout from the SPFL, and this also saw Motherwell pocket £398,000.40.

The payouts, part of an estimated £25 million which will be distributed by the SPFL this year, are shared between clubs across all four divisions, and are dependent on final league placings.

Accordingly, the payouts range from over £2m for Ladbrokes Premiership champions Celtic to £6996 for Berwick Rangers, who finished 10th in Ladbrokes League 2.

League chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “These payments, which mainly arise from our broadcasting and sponsorship deals, underline the commercial strength and attractiveness of the SPFL.

“We’ve had one of our most competitive seasons ever, with strong performances throughout the divisions.

“The fact that our flagship league, the Ladbrokes Premiership, had such an exciting finish, with so much at stake for almost every team right up to the last day, was a great advert for Scottish football.

“When you consider the difference between finishing third and fourth in the Ladbrokes Premiership is £220,000, it underlines the financial incentives of striving for as high a league position as possible.

“The fans, the players and the club management teams deserve enormous credit for their involvement in the season just past, and we’re already looking forward to another exciting season kicking off on August 3.”
