Hamas-led militants are preparing to release three Israeli civilian men who were abducted during an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The hostages, Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami, and Or Levy, are set to be freed on Saturday as part of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.
Since the ceasefire began on Jan. 19, this will be the fifth swap of hostages for prisoners. To date, 18 hostages and over 550 Palestinian prisoners have been released. The first phase of the ceasefire includes the release of 33 hostages and nearly 2,000 prisoners, along with other humanitarian measures.
Israel is set to release 183 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday, including individuals serving life sentences for deadly attacks, long-term prisoners, and detainees from Gaza. Palestinians view these prisoners as heroes fighting against Israeli occupation, while Israel considers them terrorists.
The next phase of the ceasefire, which involves the release of the remaining hostages and extending the truce indefinitely, is uncertain. Both Israel and Hamas have differing demands, with Hamas insisting on a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza before releasing the remaining hostages.

Among the Palestinian prisoners set for release are individuals involved in militant activities, including bomb attacks and Hamas leadership. The prisoners hail from various regions, including east Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank.
The situation remains delicate, with the potential for the war to resume in early March if a comprehensive agreement is not reached. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.
