Halsey says female pop stars are scared she's 'drama by association': 'Nobody wants to be my friend'

Pop star Halsey has said that she is disappointed with the lack of camaraderie between female musicians, claiming: “Nobody wants to be my friend.”

In an interview with The Guardian, the 25-year-old blamed her alienation on being outspoken about issues like former Grammy president Neil Portnoy’s past comments about women.

“They’re scared I’m gonna pop off about something. I’m drama by association. I put myself out there with my peers; I don’t know if people really ever wanted to do the same with me. So I stopped wasting my energy.”

In the interview, Halsey also discussed her public split with rapper G-Eazy, with whom she recorded the 2017 duet “Him & I”.

“Everyone’s instinct was: she must have cheated," she said. "It’s easy to make me the villain. I’m in a bikini in a music video, so I must be a whore.

“It’s so much greater than me – it’s a social perception of women. So f**k it, I’m gonna tell them everything that happened.”

The singer’s third studio album, Manic, became the first album in 2020 to go certified platinum.
