(Picture: Getty Images)Musical artist Halsey says they will no longer do press interviews after Allure magazine neglected to correct their pronouns in their August cover story.
The magazine allegedly also took quotes out of context to promote the interview.
On Wednesday morning, BuzzFeed News first reported that Halsey posted a series of now-deleted tweets calling out the magazine directly and demanding that they do f***ing better.”
Halsey noted that the article’s writer made her pronouns the focal point in the cover story, but it was “deliberately disrespected them by not using them in the article.”
In March, they said that they would be using she/they pronouns from here on out. Later on, they explained that although they are fine with people using either pronoun, they note that “the inclusion of ‘they,’ in addition to ‘she,’ feels most authentic to me.”
Despite Allure’s cover story explicitly mentioning Halsey’s she/they pronouns, quoting them as saying pronoun preferences are a way for people to “better understand” themselves, the magazine used she/her pronouns throughout the profile.
Now, the magazine has edited the story to included she/they pronouns.

Preferences can differ from person to person, but generally, when people use more than one pronoun, it’s better to use them conversely unless specified otherwise.
On Tuesday, the singer also called attention to a particular tweet from Allure ( which has also been deleted) that spoke on being a “white-passing Black” person.
“Your admin bastardized a quote where I discuss the privilege of being the white child of a Black parent and intentionally used a portion that was the antithesis of the point I was trying to make,” Halsey tweeted at the time.
Within the scope of the article, Halsey does say that their experiences fo get written off because they “present as white.” They also state that what they experienced as the white-passing child of Black father and white mother compares to the hardships and “violence” they would face if they were “phenotypically Black.”
They also noted the “guilt” that certain family members feel about the privilege.
“I think this is really common for mixed families,” Halsey explained. “You want your kids to have an advantage in life. That, unfortunately, puts them in a position of denying their heritage.”
Halsey also concluded the deleted tweets thread, saying they told the author that they don’t really like the press because they’re often “misquoted.”
“I just don’t translate very well in print, Halsey told the outlet. “Even saying this is going to get me in trouble. I already know that it is.”
Halsey gave birth to a son named Ender Ridley Aydin with her boyfriend Alev Aydin on July 14.
Their fourth album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is set to be released on August 27, 2021.
