Halsey enlisted some help from some serious celebrity heavy hitters for her new "Nightmare" music video, starring Blondie's Debbie Harry and Cara Delevingne.
This isn't Delevingne's first music video appearance. She also starred in Die Antwoord's "Ugly Boy" and released her own music video back in 2017.
The single marks a new era for the "Bad At Love" songstress. She announced the single (and a new, pop punk-infused sound, complete with its own album and matching imagery) was coming at her sold-out Webster Hall hometown show last week and then dropped hints around the country.
Her super fans searched for the song's posters all over New York and the Bay Area. Each one had different lyrics, offering bread crumbs before the single dropped.
The fiercely political pop star has been discussing the song on Twitter, detailing how it connects to her anger with the current political climate in America. And with lyrics like "I've been polite but I won't be caught dead letting a man tell me what I should do with my bed" and "I'm tired and angry but somebody should be," it's certainly intense enough to be retweeted by women all over the US.
When one fan tweeted "i could really use an angry anthem right now," she responded, "well boy do i have a song for you."
Fittingly, the angry anthem's music video has an all-female cast and is based on a concept by Halsey. It was directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who also works with Ariana Grande on her thematic videos.
The song's feminist lyrics will certainly be all over Instagram this summer. Expect to see "I'm no sweet dream but I'm a hell of a night" on someone's thirst trap immediately.
