This development is so good for Halsey — and the singer’s fans.
Capitol Music announced its “support” for the “Closer” singer on social media Tuesday, after the artist posted on TikTok last week that the label was preventing the release of Halsey’s new single, “So Good.”
“Halsey, we love you and are here to support you,” tweeted the label, noting it was “committing” to dropping the song June 9.
“We are an artist first company that encourages open dialogue,” continued the label. “We have nothing but a desire to help each one of our artists succeed, and hope that we can continue to have these critical conversations.”
It wasn’t long before Halsey, 27, responded via Twitter on Tuesday.
“I didn’t expect so much conversation about this record, all I know is that I wanted you guys to hear it and now you can,” the singer, who uses “she/they” pronouns, wrote.
“So Good, song on June 9th and video the next day. Endy gave me my flowers,” tweeted the three-time Grammy nominee, along with four pictures, including one of the singer’s son Ender alongside a bouquet.
Halsey posted a TikTok last week, saying, “basically i have a song that i love that i wanna release ASAP but my record label won’t let me. ive been in this industry for 8 years and ive sold over 165 million records. and my record company is saying that i can’t release it unless they can fake a viral moment on tiktok. everything is marketing. and they are doing this to basically every artist these days. i just wanna release music, man. and i deserve better tbh. i’m tired.”
In a later post, the artist shared audio of a conversation that seemed to be about the logistics of releasing the single, to which Halsey said, “I just hate this. ... It sucks.” The voice detailing the terms said they too hated it.
“I wish I was kidding lol,” Halsey wrote.
A subsequent video includes Halsey thanking fans for “keeping up with this fiasco. Hope you love the song.”
