Halsey apologises for sharing eating disorder post 'without sufficient trigger warning'

Halsey has shared a heartfelt apology for sharing a graphic post "without a sufficient trigger warning."

The hitmaker, 26, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a starkly honest post about her past struggle with an eating disorder.

She had posted a mirror selfie when asked by a fan to share a photograph of herself "at your lowest point."

Halsey - real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane - shared a caption with the snap reading: "TW (Trigger Warning) ED (Eating Disorder) Ask for help."

But now she's said she didn't feel the warning was "sufficient" and has penned an apology through her Twitter account.

"TW: disordered eating," Halsey wrote.

"I am very sorry for posting a photo of myself depicting my struggle with ED without a sufficient trigger warning.

"I was very nervous to post it and didn't think properly. I had positive intentions. I would never want to harm someone who shares my struggle."

She followed up the message by saying she was going to log off of social media for a time.

Since tweeting, Halsey's been met with a flood of love from fans, who've written her emotional to thank her for her honesty.

"We love you and appreciate you and know you would never intentionally hurt anyone," one offered.

"We all want what's best for you and fully support you. We'll be here to welcome with open arms when you're ready to come back."

Another wrote: "love you so much. sending lots of love. take all the time you need. thank you for being vulnerable with us, it means alot."

A third chimed in: "we love you. always. it's a very difficult thing to talk about and to deal with. I know we're just fans and there's a limit to what we can do for you, but we're always here. I love you so much."

Halsey last year opened out about an eating disorder, explaining to Rolling Stone that she's sought out help and urging others to do the same.
